Andhra Pradesh on Saturday reported 26 more cases of covid-19, with the state’s total touching 190.

Fresh cases were reported in Krishna, Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Chittoor and Prakasam districts. Most of the these are linked to the religious congregation held by the Tablighi Jamat at the Markaz Nizamuddin in New Delhi.

According the state government, Nellore has the highest number of covid-19 cases at 32, among all districts, followed by Krishna district at 27.

Andhra reported its first covid-19 casualty on Friday. The deceased’s son, who has also tested positive, likely attended the Nizamuddin event. The local authorities have identified and quarantined 29 contacts of the father-son duo in Kummaripalem in Vijayawada district.

The Andhra Pradesh government has also informed the Centre of the flight details of the deceased’s son. “All precautions have been taken as per covid-19 protocol. Subhani (the deceased) had other health problems, so initially it was difficult to know whether he died due to those or covid-19. But now it has been ascertained that he died of the virus,” the state government had said on Friday.
