Sikkim govt refutes news reports of COVID-19 positive cases in the state

Sikkim health department today refuted certain news reports about COVID-19 positive cases in the state.

Speaking to AIR, state’s principal Health Secretary Dr. Pempa Tshering Bhutia said that news reports of positive COVID-19 cases in Sikkim was unfounded and was not verified from appropriate authority.

Dr. Bhutia said that as of now, 70 samples from Sikkim have been tested and all are reported negative. These include samples from doctors and paramedics of Gangtok STNM hospital and from Singtam, East Sikkim.

He also informed that a virus testing lab is being set up and is expected to be completed within two months.

Indian Council of Medical Research is providing Rs 1.24 crore for establishment of the lab in Sikkim while a private pharmaceutical company is sponsoring the bio-safety cabinet which would be brought from Mumbai.
