The family members of Arunachal Pradesh Police have taken the ‘Mask for Arunachal’ campaign a step forward by deciding to stitch face masks on their own for the frontline workers who are presently fighting the Covid-19 pandemic putting their lives at risk. The stitching process started at the 1st APPBN colony in Chimpu near here recently. ‘Mask for Arunachal’ is a campaign launched by the state unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA-AP)m through which they distribute face masks free of costs to the people. The IM-AP has distributed more than 18000 masks across the state till date. Speaking to the reporters on Monday, Director General of Police (DGP) R P Upadhaya said that the initiative has been launched to elude the possibility of being dependent on face masks sold in market. Upadhaya said the family members of police personnel voluntarily came forward with the proposal.

“This initiative will not only give people an opportunity to help others but also create a constructive work culture among them,” the DGP said. He added that around 150 face masks are being produced in a day and the same is being distributed among the police department’s staff. If required the department will also provide face masks to other people working in the frontline, Upadhaya said. It was also informed that the 5th IRBn stationed at Pasighat in East Siang and 2nd IRBn at Diyun in Changlang district have also started the initiative. The DGP further said that the state’s police have also ordered around 500 personal protective equipments from Delhi which will be exclusively for its staff and jawans working in the frontline.
