Meghalaya Speaker convenes meeting with government, opposition
Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has convened a meeting with the state government and opposition party to discuss matters related to prevention of COVID-19. “I have summoned for a meeting at MLA Hostel, conference room to discuss on the COVID-19 pandemic in the State,” Lyngdoh said. He said the meeting will be attended by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma besides Chief Secretary M.S.Rao among others. The chief minister said that the idea of holding a meeting is to come out with ideas, suggestions and inputs to tackle the deadly virus in the State.
Sangma said that as on Friday, out of 1,130 samples tested so far, 1,048 have yielded negative results and the results of 70 tests are awaited. Seventy more swab samples have been sent for testings on Friday. Informing that health authorities have traced 181 primary contacts and 3,003 secondary contacts of the positive COVID-19 patients, the Chief Minister said, “all primary contacts under home quarantine are being visited by a team of doctors in their residence and being monitored very closely.”
Moreover, he said all primary contacts under home quarantine are being visited by a team of doctors in their residence and being monitored very closely. “There are 48 teams formed by the Deputy Commissioners office in East Khasi Hills for making home visits for all the secondary contacts,” he said, adding that all the other individuals under home quarantined for self-isolation for 14 days and to report to authorities if any symptoms appear. Altogether, 5,503 persons are in home quarantine, while 300 others are under institutional quarantine, the Chief Minister said. Sangma said that line listing is being conducted by the ASHAs in all the districts.
