235 Indians stranded in Bangladesh amid lockdown return after two months

At least 235 people from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal who were stranded in Bangladesh due to COVID-19 lockdown arrived in India on Thursday.

They were stranded in the neighbouring state for over two months and they returned through three international border points at Akahura in Tripura, Karimganj in Assam and Dawki in Meghalaya. The Indian High Commissioner at Bangladesh Riva Ganguly was herself present at the Akhahura check-post to see the stranded Indians cross the international border.

She informed that 129 Indians entered India via Akhahura international check-post, while around 100 people entered Assam via Karimganj.Meanwhile, over 80 people from Bangladesh who were stuck in India due to lockdown have returned to their country.Proper medical tests of the returnees were carried out at the check-posts before they were sent to quarantine centres.
