In Hailakandi district of Assam, a nine-day-old girl became the youngest person in the state to test positive for COVID-19 on Friday. According to health officials, the baby girl along with her mother has been admitted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment. She was born to Nazma Sultana of Bakrihower area of the district. “The test result of the mother, however, turned out to be negative,” the officials added.

The child was born at home, the officials added. It may be mentioned here that an 18-day-old baby boy on July 23 had tested COVID-19 positive in the district, making him the youngest patient of the state then. Altogether, 60 new COVID-19 cases were reported from the Barak Valley district, taking the tally to 970.
