First Manipur COVID-19 patient tests negative

The latest test of Manipur’s first COVID-19 patient retuned as negative as her health considerably improved, official sources said on Saturday. The 23-year-old woman who returned to Imphal from United Kingdom (UK) via Delhi, Kolkata and Agartala tested positive for the novel corona virus on March 24 to become the first COVID-19 patient in the state. She is currently being treated at JNIMS hospital and her health is reported to be  improving fast. She was tested for the second time today and the result was  negative.

“Her sample was sent to laboratory today and found negative in the test result. Her sample will be re-tested after 24 hours and if found negative, she will be considered fully recovered,” the hospital source said. On the other hand, an official release of the COVID-19 Common Control Room of Manipur government informed that all the 37 high risk co-passengers of the first COVID-19 positive person of Air Asia flight have completed their 14-day quarantine.

They will be referred to RIMS and JNIMS for mandatory testing, the release added. So far, Manipur has two positive cases and the second patient, an elderly 65-year-old man from Lilong locality of Thoubal district is being treating at RIMS hospital, Imphal. Also, the test results of all the 11 family members of the 2nd patient have been found negative, the release of COVID-19 Common Control Room said.
