Mizoram police review security scenario amid COVID-19 lockdown

The Mizoram police on Sunday review security situation along the inter-state and international border in the wake of novel coronavirus pandemic. Mizoram Inspector general of police (Law and Order) L H Shanliana, who presided the review meeting, said about 700 policemen are keeping vigil in at least 135 duty posts along the inter-state and international borders to prevent public movement across the border. He said about 2,000 volunteers from various village level task forces were also keeping vigil at 198 entry points along the inter-state and international borders. Mizoram shares inter-state boundary with Assam, Manipur and Tripura and also a 722 km unfenced international border with Bangladesh and Myanmar.

According to Shanliana, the state police have stepped up further measure to protect state borders and maintain law and order in the State. He said that more than 2,500 policemen are maintaining round-the-clock vigil to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. “15 senior officers are tasked with contact tracing and a total of 1,776 policemen have been deployed in at least 182 duty posts across the state exclusively for law and order,” he said. Meanwhile, nine boxes of medical consignment arrived in Aizawl to be used in the fight against novel coronavirus spread on Sunday, Health department officials said. The consignment was sent by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and was flown by Air Force Dornier HM 693, they said. While thanking that ICMR and IAF, chief minister Zoramthanga said, “Mizoram with all its limited resources will never bog down to this COVID-19 pandemic threat.”
