District police disposes off modified silencer pipes

The Traffic Control Police (TCP) unit of the Churachandpur district police in Manipur disposed off a total of 90 modified silencer pipes using a road roller in the district headquarters, 65 km south of Imphal on Monday, reports reaching Imphal on Tuesday said.

The modified silencer pipes were seized by the TCP unit from different parts of the hill town in the past one year, the source said. The day’s exercise was undertaken at the campus of Churachandpur Police Station and it was held under the supervision of district SP Amrita Sinha. “Till date, the TCP Churachandpur has seized a number of 28 Kenbo foreign bikes and handed them over to Custom Department, Imphal Divisions,” said a police source from the district.

“Since June 2019 TCP Churachandpur has issued a total number of 2,273 TR-5 Challans and collected a total fine of Rs 8,40,400,” the police added. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of destroying the silencers, superintendent of police Amrita appealed all to uphold the law, saying that the existence of rule of law is a sign of progress in the society.

She exhorted the public to always wear helmets for their safety and avoid triple riding. She also called upon the public to follow traffic regulations like avoiding wrong parking, following one way traffic in main town,not to take U-turn at non-permitted area and avoiding unloading during restricted hours from 8 am to 6 pm are some regulations etc among others. The SP was assisted by Lawrence K Munluo, Additional SP (Operations) and James Vaiphei Officer in Charge TCP of the district, the source said.
