Six students in Manipur were confirmed suffering from dengue after a series of tests was conducted on them.

This was informed by Dr K Rajo, director of Manipur health and family welfare department.

“The six students who used to stay in the boarding of Sainik school in Imphal East district were confirmed suffering from dengue after a series of tests was conducted on them. All of the students have been tested positive for dengue,” Dr K Rajo further said.

The Manipur Health Services Authority issued a dengue alert on Friday after over 100 patients including six students of Sainik School in Imphal tested positive for dengue.

“Dengue is on the rise in the state. Along with it, diseases like chikungunya, malaria, zika also require actions for the prevention of vector-borne diseases,” it further said.

It was also reported that over 100 patients from across Manipur tested positive for dengue.

Dr Rajo also emphasised how dengue spreads when a mosquito bites an infected human.

“While there is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue, supportive care is used to help with symptoms,” he said.

He advised people to avoid mosquito bites as far as possible, especially at times of high mosquito activity like dawn and dusk.

Dr Rajo also urged the people to use a mosquito net or other means to avoid mosquito bites while sleeping.
