Amid coronavirus scare, Meghalaya govt says poultry products safe

 Amid the outbreak of coronavirus in China and other parts of the world, the Meghalaya animal husbandry and veterinary department on Friday cleared the air on poultry and poultry products saying they are completely safe to be consumed.

A statement issued by the director of animal husbandry and veterinary department said that as per a notification of the Union government on February 10 regarding the issue of consumption of livestock and poultry products and in context to the Novel coronavirus (Covid-19), it was found that poultry has not been involved in transmission of Covid-19 to humans so far, globally.

It further mentioned that the consumption of poultry and poultry products may be considered safe, although general principles of hygiene will have to be followed as per the suggestion of WHO/OIE.

Meanwhile, the department of health and family welfare said that there were no cases of coronavirus reported in the state of Meghalaya.
